You are desperately searching Internet for common questions like “How much is maximum boost of my turbocharger” or “what is max. IQ/duration of my injectors” and came across various forums where you find some, what you believe, useful information. But everybody has got own opinion, and they usually contradict with each other because opinion/truth is like an asshole, everybody has one.
The right question to ask is “why, would I change it?” and “Is it really safe to change engine parameters?“. You get tons of opinions, especially from those who wanna extract some money from your pocket. Give a monkey a banana, and it will do anything for you. Did you ever wonder about the simple question “but why?” followed by awkward silence from tExperts? That is exactly the point where you should run away, unless you like to sponsor local car parts dealers and garages.
Or did you ever ask those guys, “hey, thanks for your info. Did you try it on your car and can you share your logs, please?”. Once again, there is awkward silence because you just met a bunch of tExperts that like to “help”, but they never did it by themselves, nor they understand what they do. If you believe attending school, seminar or reading book is all you need…well good luck! KNOW IS DO. IF YOU DON’T KNOW, YOU LOVE TO HELP OTHERS. Vicious cycle I know, but you never know until you’ve lived through this shit yourself…that is the beauty of Mother Nature aka sweet ignorance or ignorance is the bliss.
It is easy to filter out tExperts, but what’s up with those seemingly knowledgeable guys, they seem to know something but refuse to share…despite they get it for free in first place 😀 It is very simple, I have been there. As a young genius and smart ass, you learn quickly and become better than normals in a very short period of time. Arrogance kicks in, and you believe you are the center of the Universe. While partially true, it clouds your senses, and you stop learning/improving…because you are too busy to share your geniality and protect your “knowledge” from parasites.
To make the boring story short. The less you know, the more fear you have that someone can be better, and “steal” from you. Naturally, you protect your asset/knowledge by not telling anyone. That is where smart asses usually get stuck and never become legendary. Too much fear of losing nothing 😉
Once, you climb over that brick-wall-of-knowing-little-to-nothing, you are on the way to legendary status where very few dare to go. The more you know, the more you laugh how much you don’t know…as pointed out by Socrates. Just 20 years ago, I wouldn’t tell anyone because I was in “simple-the-best” mode ROFL. How stupid we are.
One day at work, where I controlled a large group of CNC newbies, I realized that I can tell them everything I know yet only 1 from 10 will eventually understand and even makes my strategies better.
The rest failed, blaming mostly me for their incompetence, and went on assploring way of work. Sadly, 7 from 10 even have no desire to learn anything and simply seeks Holy Grails and shortcuts to riches. There will be always someone better than you.
It is a simple choice:
- Become a master…it took me about 3 years – in engine calibration business – based on supernatural knowledge of any technology I was interested in my first 30 years of life.
- Or hire a guy who is better than you but beware that in the beginning most is better than you, and you have to be careful whom do you learn chiptuning from!!!
- Or hire a master with proven records such as Gale Banks in US or Mr. Cimbu in Central Europe…and many more I didn’t meet yet
If you think you can learn 30 years of experience in a few months…you better be genius, also extremely smart and most importantly finding a master you can sponge off 😉 Trust me, I have always lots of questions, but very little answers…and it gets worst the more you know.
Everybody loves to talk about advancing SOI (common kludge for “fixing” small injectors) or AFR, but do you really know how dangerous game is that? Just advancing SOI by 2°, your cylinder pressure rises by 50 bar (2.0TDi 103kW) from usual 190-210bar factory calibration. How many guys do have dyno cell and actually measured results of changes and long term effect on engine…you guess it right…zero !!!
NEVER CHANGE WHAT YOU CANNOT MEASURE VIA LOGGING…PERIOD!!!
We invested lots of resources, energy and money to resolve and understand problems and challenges of engine recalibration aka chiptuning.
Estimate of costs to proper engine recalibration of VW 2.0TDi 103kW BMM diesel engine (if you wanna do it alone and have a fun) found in Octavia 2, Golf 5, Passat and so on:
- First remap about 100 hours of experimenting with stuff we did not fully understand, but we knew normal remap would be not good for us. If I did what earns me money, I could have 100 x 15€ = 1,500€
- Clutch and turbocharger replacement; as a result of poor calibration from “expert”. Material 800-2000€ + 50hours x 30€/h labor = at least 2300€ wasted.
- Education is priceless – various books, reference manuals at least 500€. I could have the best commercial remap I can get…Once again, I knew we would be not happy about the result in long term.
- So much fuel converted to noise. Back then we did 30,000 km per year and at least 5,000 km was solely for Hajes Racing. Hilda HR I costs 0.50€/km in high-G fun mode (fuel, brake pads, tires just to name consumables). 2,500€ x 3 years of main development = 7,500€ “wasted” on experiments and fines :o)
Total sum of at least 10,000€ invested/wasted into properly understanding effects of changes to engine calibration as intended from beginning. We gained knowledge that very few understand or posses.
When we have built Internet 30 years ago, hackers’ code was to share and exchange knowledge. The best ones shared their knowledge for free. Sadly, in modern world there is treasure hunters that want all for free (also cheeky to even sell your ideas) and do not want to share. The more you share, the more you get. It is very simple.
You can either learn everything by yourself based on our knowledge shared for free on Hajes Racing website, or we will do it for you. You will not find anywhere else what is on HR web…PERIOD! It is not our bragging, but feedback from our “customers”. Check out Testimonials, what others say. The usual emails we get, “Great web guys, you saved me lots of money by not doing the usual chiptuning knowledge. There is almost everything for free on HR web, but I have further questions.”
We have gained lots of knowledge, but you will never ever know everything. What we do not know, we can find together and resolve your problems. DO NOT LEARN, UNDERSTAND!
Most frequently asked questions or simple calculation of calibration data takes about 2 hours, and it is covered by basic fee written on HR Assistance offer page. For custom and advanced stuff there is additional hourly rate. You get secrets worth over 10,000€ for about 50-200€. Just think about wasted time spent by searching Internet for something that is not there. You could instead do what earns you money or have fun with your properly calibrated car.
