Let me guess, you expect some secret that nobody knows….the secret that allows you to calibrate your car better than anyone else. We already covered all secrets to free power.
Secret is that there are no secrets
Pre-shit era (<2007) was full of surprises because industry prospered and everything has been designed with large margins for errors.
Such as legendary PD130/150 injectors popular among the tuners. PD100-180 most likely shared the same injector body, only nozzle sizes changed.
It all changed with 2007-2008 crisis and rise of CAD/CAM systems where we can design all with precise life span and >90% capacity.
You can either seek the Holy Grail as most do, or you finally understand what is in your ECU is what you get…PERIOD !
Examples of PD140 injectors
PD140 injectors found on VW 2.0 TDi, BMM, 103kW and many more engines from Volkswagen.
SOI maps
- Duration map 5 down to 2 covers engine speeds up to 2500 rpm.
- Duration map 1 covers speeds 2501 – 3750rpm.
- Last map is self-explanatory…anything beyond 3750rpm.
Max. IQ up to 2600 rpm
Max. injector IQ is 65mg up to 2600 rpm.
Max. IQ up to 3700 rpm
Max. injector IQ is 60mg up to 3700 rpm.
Max. IQ over 3700 rpm
We are down to 55 mg IQ beyond 3700 rpm. Do not forget, fuel gets hot during High-G fun, and usual 70 °C fuel temp reduces fuel quantity by 3%.
You are down to 53.3 mg, official factory calibration is 52 mg at 4000 rpm where you get 246Nm/103kW/140PS/138HP.
You must understand flow vs mass flow. Injectors are usually rated with something like 400 cm3 fuel flow.
Some ECUs use flow mm3/stroke in maps, and some volume mg/stroke. Beware of units in your ECU.
Any mass unit depends on temperature, pressure, as you will find out with turbocharging.
