From very beginning, I’ve got an issue with front brakes overheating as mentioned in my post. Unfortunately, I’ve bought my car without alloy rims and there lies main problem – steel rims are heat shield.
SUMMARY
- rims used on Prodrive Mini WRC
- weight around 8kg per rim
- size 17″ x 7J ET45
- reasonable performance/price ratio
- rally style
- Yokohama C.Drive 2 (225/45 R17 94W)
I really like rally rims such as OZ Racing Leggenda used by Skoda Motorsport – I also don’t like to pay overpriced products with little or no real advantage. After some e-shop offers research and intellectual diarrhoea, I’ve found a winner.
German company ATS, which makes rims for Prodrive Mini WRC, combined with reasonable price – that’s good enough for me. I never use products that never been tested in field and don’t have feedback from real drivers. I’m sure even dumbest person wouldn’t buy a gun manufactured by farmer.
I know one day I’ll upgrade my brakes to fix callipers and 312mm Brembo high-carbon drilled discs so my reasoning was 17″ and there was only one size available for my car.
White ATS Streetrally rims 17″ x 7J ET45 (more info on manufacturer’s web); Sales man says each wheel weights around 8kg that is 6kg lighter that Skoda 17″ alloy rims. I wanted black ones but only white are available at the moment. I’ve already waited for 5 weeks because there is substantial demand for these rims.
Yokohama C.Drive 2 size 225/45 R17 94W; I used to have Yokohama C.Drive on my Subaru and those tires have great wet driving performance I’ve seen so far. Even my favourite universal tires Continental WinterContact TS850 can’t beat them. Those tires won’t bend, roll as common tires usually do under load and of course they stick to the road as putty. Only limit is chassis/suspension now.
